Changes in Water
Your child should know and understand...
Water becomes solid when it freezes and liquid when it melts.
Precipitation occurs when water vapor in the sky condenses and falls back to the earth’s surface.
Precipitation can occur as rain (liquid water), snow (can be solid flakes or crystals, sleet (small solid plates of ice), hailstones (solid balls of ice).
In a closed container the weight of an amount of water remains the same as it changes from a liquid to solid (freeze) and back to liquid (melt).
Water in an open container disappears into the air around it (evaporates) over time and the weight reduces.
